To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download Appendectomy at five months pregnant I was 21 weeks pregnant, when I underwent emergency surgery. I had an appendectomy. I lost my baby four days later… It all started with some pain in my right side of my abdomen, which kept me from sleeping. I went into the hospital at 6am and was kept in the hospital overnight. I was given pain medication, blood work was done, an ultrasound was done and nothing. I was told by my doctor that I had an infection, but they did not know what it was. I was sent home with pain medication. A week later the pain return, but now it was ten time worse. My husband took me into the hospital and they started pumping me with morphine. The pain was still there. They said I was not having any contractions and just kept on taking blood an giving me pain medication. a day later a surgen was called and he said i might have appendicitis, but they could not be sure unless I had surgery. Since I was pregnant they could not do the Laparascopy, and said I had to consent to an open surgery. I was told if my appendicitis had rupture I could die if i did not have the surgery, but having the surgery could induce an abortion. I consented to the surgery… It turned out my appendix had ruptured and I had a really bad infection. Everything seem to be doing well after the surgery. My stomach started contracting three days later and was told that was normal. I could not eat or drink anything. The pain came back, but this time I told the nurses it was contractions. I was told that they were not contractions, a few moments later my son was born…., but died two hours later. I did not get to hold him for long because i was taken to the OR. When I came to it was back in the hospital room and my baby was gone. November 2008
