To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download Someone worse off than me…and now cancer-free Feb 1998 I was diagnosed with stage 3B breast cancer at 32 years old after I noticed “orange peel” symptoms when I stopped breast feeding child #2 when she was 8 mos. (No family history). Biopsey on Tues. & told I had to start chemo or have mastectomy by Friday (i.e. Days away from distant matastisis). My cancer was VERY aggressive so I opted to have chemo 1st as it was the more aggressive treatment followed by mastectomy, high dose chemo/bone marrow transplant, & radiation. I had a 30% chance of being alive in 5 yrs - ALIVE, not cancer-free. Thank God, 9+ yrs later I am here to mother my 13 & 10 y.o. kids. No cancer has been detected in all of the testing I have had since the mastectomy - knock on wood. During treatment, I always wanted to hear a story of someone “worse-off” than me that survived but never did until later. I know many women have had worse prognoses than me, but still, I hope this gives someone hope and faith. June 2007
