Open Cholecystectomy

I have decided to write about my open chole on a forum for others to read as I cannot find any information about them anywhere or find a forum where anyone has had to have one. I went in for key hole surgery at the beginning of March. As I was so tender the surgeon did warn that he may have to open me up but at the age of 26 I hoped for the best. Unfortunately the surgeon was correct. After going through an incision in my stomach they found that my gall bladder was inflamed. Therefore I had to undergo an open chole! The incision is quite large. About 6 - 8 inches!

It will have been 8 weeks since my operation tomorrow. I have just started back at work on a phased return due to still not feeling physically capable of doing a long day at work. I still experience quite a lot of pain and have been told by my GP that I shouldn’t exercise until 3 months have passed. I improved quite rapidly initially on a day by day basis but seem to have reached a bit of a plateau although I do notice a small weekly change. Fingers crossed by June I will be back to my former self - I just need to have a little patience. Afterall it is classed as fairly major surgery I think.
