To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download Colon Resection On July 28, 2008 I had to have both left and right side (Ascending and Sigmoid) removed (Laproscopically) leaving only the upper portion of the colon remaining and the rectum. Well today is day 8 I came home from the hospital on day 6. Much sooner than I had anticipated. Much to my surprise I’m not feeling as bad as I thought I would. The worse part was waking up with a drainage tube in my nose to remove any excesses bile that would collect in my stomach. I hated that part! It was painful and I felt like I was constantly gagging. Thank God that only lasted 3 days. Day 4 I had my first bowel movement which was scary, not painful, just black and loose. I had many BM over the next 3 days all with the same consistancy. On day 6 when I came home and ate a little, I noticed that my BM has already begun to change and has more “form” to it. My husband and I are timing everything I eat. We want to see how long will I have before I have to use the bathroom. Last night I had a little soup and choc. pudding and didn’t use the bathroom until this morning!!!! I’m feeling like this isn’t going to be that bad after all. This morning day 8 I ate a 1/4 package of instant oatmeal, and have gone to the bathroom 4 times already. If anyone can give me advise on what they have found they can and can’t eat I would certainly appreciate it. By the way I’m a 46 year old female, while I’m basically healthy, I have previously had 18 operations for various reasons. So I believe my post-op perception is rather optimistic, as I’ve been down this road before. Comments
