Nauseas since colon surgery

My dad had colon resection and a hernia repaired five weeks ago today. He was doing well until two weeks ago when he got sick. Mom took him to the emergency room and after doing a CT Scan they said he had a urinary tract infection and infection where they connected and large and small intestines.

After putting him on a strong antibiotic that made him very sick and unable to eat or drink, he finished the meds on Sunday only to be put in the hospital on Tuesday due to being dehydrated. We brought him home yesterday thinking the worst was over because he felt better but today it’s back to being sick to his stomach and not having an appetite. Has anyone else experienced this? We weren’t told of these side effects.

I am doing better than I had expected. I had 8 inches of my colon removed near the rectum for a large polyp that was benign. The worst part of all of it was the drainage tubes that I woke up with to keep bile from getting to the newly stapled colon. [more..]
