To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download Big Day 3 months ago my bowel perforated due to diverticulitis and I ended up needing emergency surgery with a temporary colostomy I had the disease for 10 years, but it only got bad in the past year prior to it rupturing. Prior to this happening I had a colonoscopy and a consult with a colorectal surgeon and both did not think the surgery was necessary. Boy were they wrong! The barium enema I had post-op showed I have the disease throughout my colon. I am scheduled to have the rest of my descending colon, and most of my sigmoid removed tomorrow and reattach my colon and get rid of my colostomy. Even though I have the disease in the Tranverse colon, and ascending colon, the surgeon feels because I have not had symptoms in those areas he is not going to remove them. Im nervous ofcourse about complications and not looking forward to the pain or recovery, but I am looking forward to geting rid of this colostomy and getting on with my life as it used to be. Wish me Luck!! July 2010
