To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download Fistula tied to Colitis I was diagnosed with Crohns disease in 1986.. Then moved to Missouri and the new diagnosis was Ulcerative Colitis, which is better.. I had a fistula in 1982 and a general surgeon opened it up to the air and stuffed with gauze and no problems until 2005. Then, as I had seen 19 years before, the symptoms reappeared with the fistula exiting the skin on my left bottock [buttock]. Then another appeared on my right buttock a few weeks later. My gasterologist [gastrosaid I need a fistulotomy with setons. That was in August of 2006. I have 2 setons and one appeared to be working, the right side, but the left side has gotten worse. I eat a well balanced diet with fiber and take fiber supplements, so I never have hard stools. Anyway, this surgeon and my gastro doc never said anything about tightening the setons so it would heal from the inside out. I also have had hemmoroids [hemorrhoids]for several years, but they were never painful or itching like all the ads talk about. The surgeon decided to leave them intact from my surgery because he said they may help with keeping me from becoming incontinent since he had to cut into the sphoincter [sphincter] muscle. The left fistula has always drained pus and the like and I wear a gauze pad 24 by 7 as well. September 2007
