To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download Abcsess and fistulotomy I was diagnosed with a perirectal abscess on September. It was so large I couldn’t walk! My colorectal surgeon said it needed to be drained right away. He told me he could get me into the E.R. the next day, or that he could do it now under local. However, he warned me that under local, it would be “very uncomfortable.” I opted for local thinking I would trade one pain ( abscess) for another. Well it was intensely painful and it lasted 25 minutes but in the end, I was happy that my abscess was finally drained. After a few weeks, a fistula developed. I had it fixed 2 days ago and I am doing fine. There is a bit of discomfort but I can say that after dealing with the abscess, this is a minor thing. Take a few baths a day. eat reasonably and all should go well. Most importantly, if you suspect you have a rectal abscess, do not let it grow. Deal with it right away. The larger it gets, the more pain you will have. February 2008
