Abscess and Fistulotomy

I developed an abscess at the end of last year. It was the strangest thing I have ever had. Mine was about two inches to the right of my bum hole. It was painful when sitting. It eventually became so painful I had my husband take me to the E.R.

They did the abscess drainage. As others said the local anesthesia does not work. It was an awful pain to endure. My doctor warned me that the muscles in your butt do not hold the numbing for as long as other parts of the body does. They cut a hole in my butt about a quarter round. I stuffed gauze in my bum for the longest time. It kept coming back and breaking open and draining again and again from the hole that they created.

I went back to the dr. and he said they would have to do a fistulotomy Well my surgery was last week. I have had so much pain from the fistulotmy it has been insane. I think the pain after the surgery has been worse than the pain before the surgery. I feel stitches from the area. The doctor said the abscesses are normally higher than where mine occured at. So I get to sit on mine for almost 8 hours a day at work. That makes it more painful than it probably would be if it was higher.

I go back in 9 days to see the doctor. I am sick of the drainage that is occuring and it has only been one week. I am not sure if I can stand it for 4 weeks………. It is definetly hard to walk with it. I am limping for the most part. I can’t stand going to the bathroom. It is the most uncomfortable problem I have ever had. Good luck to anyone who gets an abscess and fistula. They are awful.

In October of 2006 I went to my primary care clinic with what turned out to be a peri-anal abcess. I was told at the time by the doctor who was seeing patients that day that he wanted to admit me to the hospital because it was possible that this could be fatal. [more..]
