First a little history. I had my fistula for almost 2 years. My dr. had dx. me with herpes instead. I had one ulcer on buttocks. I was treated with Valtrex, ointments, etc. Of course they didn’t help. Thought I would just have to live with it. Had heard about outbreaks and they would go away but mine never did. A few weeks ago noticed the “ulcer” was seeping and it STUNK…working in ICU I knew it was infection…anyway went back to dr. (one who dx. me with “H” had retired had a young woman this time…told her my history and she ’s like it looks more like a fistula (after my exam) certainly not herpes..I was happy and sad….she sent me to a surgeron the same day which confirmed her dx. he set up surgery for June 4. I had my surgery yesterday and all went well..I actually had 2 fistulas, one had tunneled towards the vagina. The surgery took about 45 minutes. Only problem I had was N/V..Had never been sick after surgery before but sure was this time. I also had a BM before leaving the surgical center, didn’t even hurt. Now doing well, sitz baths help. I never feel really dry after them so I use a tiny hairdryer on low and dry real well. Works out great, have drainage, almost like a light period. Take Mothrin 800 for pain, also have Darvocet N100 but never take it…I am so glad this is over. Actually for only day 2 I feel great! Don’t dread it “just get er done”!
