To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download Living with Hemmoroids and Anal Fissure Surgery I am an expert of fissure surgery. Im only 31 yrs old. First surgery was due to a very hard bowel movement. I didnt know any better at the time not to strain!! I felt immediate pain, up all night, went to dr next day and had surgery two days later. Recovery was horrible!!! First BM had to hold my mothers hand. Second time, just happened. BM were not horrible, being very discouraged knowing what was happening I waited and waited to go to the dr. Had the second surgery. And of course had to hold my husbands hand for the first few BM’S. Recovery seemed worse. Slept on the couch for 2 weeks. Had to go back to the ER the morning after surgery. I was in terrible pain asking for pain medicine every hour. My urine was not passing and the pressure of the bladder was pressing on the wound. WOW that hurt. Third time is hopefully a charm. Not sure when this fissure happened it just came. worked with it four years with cream, nitroglycerin , pain meds after BM (New dr. said my spincter muscle was spasmodic during BM and caused the tear. Which the old dr said “It just happens.” This time the new dr. decided to do a spincterotomy. This relaxes that spincter muscle allowing the anus to relax. This recovery had not been as bad, but same amount of time to heal.
