Recovering after Hemorrhoidectomy

It has now been over three weeks since my operation, and I am still unable to sit, nor have a BM without being left soaking wet, crying and shaking - all due to the tremendious pain I go through with every movement. I am also discharching a lot of blood every time I go.

My wound is still swollen and every sensitive to touch, and it feels and looks like I have developed more Hemorrhoids.

I have always suffered from irregular BM. I usually only go every few days and that was never a problem for me. But a few years ago I was put on medication to releive the chest pains I was experiencing at the time. This made me very depressed and inturn was given something for that, which resulted in me not having the ability to have my ‘regular’ BM.

After constantly going back to my GP to discuss this, I decided to take myself off all the medication I was on, but by then my colon just seemed to ’stop’ working properly. I was in extreme discomfort. I was rushed to the immergency where I had an x-ray taken of my torso section. The doctor who was consulting me was a little surprised - I was shocked at what I saw - my colon was totally blocked - totally!!! I couldn’t believe what I was seeing…

I was given a series of stool softners etc. to help me ‘empty’ my colon - it took what seemed months before I felt ‘ok’. But by then the damage was done, and to this day I still struggle to with my BM.

It took me over five days to have my first BM after surgery - I was in agony and boy did I scream.

Due to the history I have with my BM I believe that it might take me a lot longer to recover and I might even have to undergo further surgery.

I am still bleeding excessively after every BM, and even tho I take stool softners (and when that isn’t working - I take laxatives) my stools are still hard and they hurt like you my first BM did.

Scale from 1-10: I will say 25 - that’s how painful it feels.

I am seeing my GP in two days to discuss my ‘recovery’. Hopefully there might be an adjustment they can do with my medication etc.

Ooh, this will get you - the medication I am has bad side affects - mainly constipation!! I couldn’t belive it when I found out after renewing my prescription! I have asked for alternative painkillers, but they just renewed what my consultant presecriped. I am on Co-Codamol 500mg tablets (taking 2, 3 times a day), Diclofenac Sodium 50mg (1, 3 times a day) and Lactulose Solution BP (10ml, twice a day - morning and night)..

I am also living on soup, just blended veggies with herbs. I sometimes eat jelly with fruit which I make once a week. I drink about 1.5 to 2 liters of water a day. I sometimes chop small pieces of chicken and add it to my soup. Or I have a slice of soft bread - no butter etc. and I also eat high water based fruit, like melon.

Before I started typing I took my medication, and i’m starting to feel drowsy and dizzy - and am stuggling to type so I am going to end this here. I just want to wish you all who are going through this a less painfull and quick recovery…
