To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download Taking care of a hernia In 10/2004 I had what I thought would be a routine colonoscopy as the final 5-year post-mastectomy breast cancer checkup. The surgeon perforated my colon which landed me in the ER (no memory) with peritonitis and during surgery had to be resuscitated at least four times. I woke up after two weeks in a coma and spent six weeks in hospital with longterm recuperation after that experience. I woke up with an ostomy bag at my side and developed a hernia after recuperation which was definitely long term!I now need hernia surgery to correct bulging innards–but I am afraid of dying for good this time!
