Sphincterotomy success

On March 4th I had a sphincterotomy and fissurectomy to heal an anal fissure that has been giving me trouble for the past 6 months or more. The anal fissure (at one point)would heal and then come right back then heal once again. I have been on this roller coaster ride concerning this anal fissure. Finally decided to have the surgery.

It has been a week (since I have been operated on) and I feel like I am doing pretty good considering I am a coumadine (blood thinner medication) patient and have to watch for excessive bleeding. I reluctantly came back to work to answer the phones and do a few light things this past Monday. I probably should have stayed home one full week at least.

My main problem is I am having to make alot of trips to bathroom just to wipe myself clean. There seems to be alot of leakage from the anus and I wear pads and keep myself very clean. I am taking two sitz baths a day. I have had to take just one ice cold sitz bath to stop the bleeding since I am back on Coumadine. I have had to take pain medicine daily. I take one milk of magnesia at night and one stool softner at night to keep my stools soft. I have had one case of not being able to control my bowel but should not have any more of that.

Today is a week since the operation and I feel like I am coming out of it pretty well but I did have pain today going to the rest room. After another few weeks pass I should be good to go. The fact that I am a heart patient also and have to be on blood thinner this operation was kind of risky for me; However, it was worth it. To be free of this anal fissure finally. The surgery was not too bad for me and I am a heart patient. So far,so good. My doctors all agreed this was the correct thing to do.
